The Halberd is a weapon used during the 15th and 16th Cents. It consisted of a combined spear and axe-blade mounted upon a 5 1/2 to 6 foot wooden staff. Originating in Germany, the weapon was adopted by the Swedes, Swiss, French, and English successively. It is still carried by the Yeomen of the Guard (“Beefeaters”) on ceremonial occasions.
